It has been another busy and positive week at Broadford Secondary College, with plenty to celebrate across our school community.
Broadland Stalls
Our Year 8 students officially opened their Broadland Stalls to the community today, and it was fantastic to see their hard work come to life. In preparation for opening day, students have been working diligently on their businesses, including planning their products, setting prices, considering food safety requirements and preparing their stalls. We had an amazing range of products on offer, including waffles, lolly stations, 3D-printed models, handcrafted bracelets, desserts and much more.
Importantly, the learning doesn’t stop after the first day of sales. Students will now review how their business performed, consider what worked well and what could be improved, and refine their business models before opening again.
The Broadland Stalls will be open again next Friday from 1:00 pm. If you are able to come along, please do, and bring some cash to support our budding young entrepreneurs!
Book Day
Our Book Day dress up was a big hit with students and staff, with some fantastic costumes on display across the College. While dressing up is certainly part of the fun, Book Day also provides us with an important opportunity to celebrate and promote reading. Developing strong reading habits remains incredibly important throughout secondary school, supporting students not only in English but across every learning area. We encourage families to continue promoting reading at home and helping young people find books and topics that genuinely interest them.
Interschool Athletics
A group of students proudly represented the College at the interschool athletics competition, with a number of excellent performances and positive results throughout the day. A particular highlight was an extraordinary performance from our very own Poppy, who broke the state record in the 400 metres by a whopping 10 seconds! This is an amazing achievement and something Poppy should be incredibly proud of.
Congratulations to all of our students who competed and represented Broadford Secondary College so positively.
SIX the Musical
Students involved in our recent College production had the opportunity to attend a performance of SIX the Musical. The students thoroughly enjoyed the show, which was particularly fitting given the enormous amount of work they recently put into their own production. We were also delighted to have a member of the public reach out specifically to compliment our students on their highly respectful behaviour while attending the performance. Receiving unsolicited positive feedback about our students is always wonderful and reflects extremely well on them and our College.
Footy Colours Day
Footy Colours Day was another great success today, with plenty of team colours and friendly rivalry around the College. Most importantly, the day raised money for BlazeAid, which does incredible work alongside rural communities, helping families rebuild fences and clear debris following natural disasters including bushfires, floods and cyclones. A big thank you to our senior students who led this initiative and to everyone who got involved and supported the cause. And, of course, Go Blues!
Father’s Day
Our Father’s Day Breakfast was a fantastic way to start the day, with a great turnout from our school community. Thank you to the staff who led and supported this initiative and, importantly, to all of the family and community members who came along. We hope you enjoyed the opportunity to spend some time together at the College.
I would also like to wish a very Happy Father’s Day to all of our dads, stepdads, grandfathers and father figures within the Broadford Secondary College community. We hope you have a wonderful day on Sunday and know how much the role you play in supporting, guiding and raising the next generation is valued and appreciated.
Student Behaviour in the Community
Unfortunately, we have received some reports regarding the behaviour of a small number of our students while travelling on school buses and the public train network.
If your child uses these services, please take a moment to remind them of their responsibility to behave in a safe, respectful and considerate manner while travelling to and from school. This includes following the directions of drivers and transport staff, respecting other passengers, and ensuring their behaviour does not impact the safety or comfort of others.
More broadly, we remind all students that when travelling to and from school or out in the local community, they are representing both themselves and our College. We appreciate families reinforcing these expectations at home and helping us ensure our students continue to represent Broadford Secondary College positively.
Have a wonderful weekend, and once again, Happy Father’s Day to all those celebrating.
Kind regards,
James Blay
Acting Principal
